YMCA's Diabetes Prevention Class

Reduce your Risk for Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes affects more than 26 million individuals across the country and more than one million people in the Carolinas. The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program helps adults at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles. Participants learn about eating healthier through nutrition coaching, increasing physical activity, and losing a modest amount of weight. These changes reduce their chances of developing the disease.

Over the course of a year, trained YMCA lifestyle coaches help participants learn about healthy behavior changes. The class includes a three-month membership to the YMCA.

Through a partnership with the YMCA of Greater Charlotte, we offer classes at CCHC in English and Spanish. If you’re interested, talk to your provider. They can see if you’re eligible and help you apply.

"My goal was to lose weight before the summer. I was diagnosed with prediabetes a few months in, and my doctor was very happy to hear I had started the program. The program helped me lose over 30 pounds and more than that, it's helped me and my husband start eating healthier and walking more."
